What is a Battery?

Consisting of one or more electrochemical cells that produce electricity from chemical energy, batteries are an important power source for a wide variety of household and personal devices. They can be classified into two main types, disposable (or primary) batteries and rechargeable (or secondary) batteries. As their names suggest, disposable batteries are rendered useless after their charge has been depleted, whereas rechargeable batteries can be used many times over.
